In 2017, Eurotransplant celebrates its 50th anniversary. For this occasion, a Jubilee Congress was organized from October 4–6, 2017 (instead of the regular Annual Meeting). This international, both medical and political congress took place at the beautiful Hotels van Oranje at Noordwijk in the Leiden area, where the heart of the Eurotransplant history lies.
Together on a life-saving mission: it was the main theme for the Jubilee Congress but more importantly: it’s what we stand for. As our mission is still as important as it was 50 years ago, the Jubilee Congress focuses on highlighting the achievements of the past and present. Even more important it also provides a platform to discuss innovations, future technologies and procedures in transplant medicine.
It has been be a unique networking opportunity for both experienced and young professionals in organ donation and transplantation with ample opportunities to exchange ideas and participate in discussions. Besides organ specific sessions, ethical aspects, political challenges and the many forms of cooperation within and outside Eurotransplant – and even outside of Europe – that have been formed since the start, will be highlighted.
The Jubilee Congress has been highly interesting for all professionals involved in clinical care and research related to organ donation and transplantation. Besides physicians, surgeons and transplant researchers, all different allied health professionals involved in transplantation and donation such as clinical and donation coordinators are warmly welcome.
The meeting was also addressed to medical ethicists, politicians, patient representatives and even journalists. Furthermore, we cordially invited also families and relatives of organ donors and transplanted patients to be present.
